I've been googling like mad for a UK supplier of carbon fibre sheets who can also do water jet cutting and can accurately trace my old glass fibre decks. So far the prices are pretty scary coming in at about £40 to £50 for a 1.5mm A4 sheet and slightly more for a 2mm sheet. I'd get two mech decks and two chassis decks out of those.
Not sure I want to splash out that much with the cutting costs on top it'll be silly money. Even putting the second set on e-bay to recover some of the cost we're still talking extravagance.
Yeah carbon fibre is very saucy, but maybe I should consider glass fibre decks in black. I'm sure the re-released Sand Scorcher and Buggy Champ ( Rough Rider ) use that in black, so cheap and easy to get (about a tenner). Then I'd just need to get the mech deck made up to match.
Have e-mailed a guy on tamiyaclub.com who sells them in carbon fibre - came in at just over 50 notes for the pair, but not had a reply and his ebay page shows just a few chassis decks left and no mention of the mech decks.
Alternatively I wait until 2012 when the rumoured 30 year re-release of the Superchamp happens (or not).
